Have a plan to get home safely from New Year celebrations

While it’s time to embrace 2025 with open arms, don’t get off to bad start—make sure you have a safe, sober ride home from your New Year celebrations.

Incidences of impaired driving often increase during the holiday season and especially for New Year’s Eve, so the Christian County Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies will be out in force, working to keep the roadways safe.

Public Information Officer Chris Miller urges anyone who goes to any type of party or gathering where there will be drinking to make sure you have a plan, whether that be to stay the night there or find a ride home with a sober driver.

He says they will have extra patrols out, as will agencies across the state, and it’s not because they’re out to ruin someone’s night—they’re out to make sure everyone makes it home safe and sound.

In Kentucky, there were 452 impaired driving-related crashes, resulting in 179 injuries and 11 deaths, during the Christmas and New Year holidays over the last five years.  Let’s make to get the new year off to a good start, with everyone celebrating responsibly.
