While who will be the next Mayor of Hopkinsville remains in the air, one thing that’s certain is it will be a new face as Russ Guffey has won the Republican primary Tuesday night.
It was a pretty close match up between Guffey and incumbent James R. Knight Jr., with Guffey getting 1,138 of the votes, Knight claiming 958 votes and Natasha Sophia Francis getting 43 votes, with 2,139 total cast.
The campaign isn’t over for Guffey, who will go on to face Democrat Markeeta Oldham-Wilkerson and Independent Desaepa Vansauwa in the November General Election. But right now, Guffey says he’s focused on the next immediate steps, saying he’s ready to represent everyone, including those who didn’t cast a vote for him.
Speaking with WHOP, Mayor J.R. Knight says he’s so very proud to have been the Mayor of Hopkinsville, and he’s focused on the next seven months for moving Hopkinsville forward.
Now, all eyes turn towards November 3, when people will get to decide who will be the next Mayor of Hopkinsville.
