University Heights Academy made it five straight District 8 Soccer Tournament championships with a hard fought 2-0 win over Christian County Thursday night at UHA’s Givens Field.
Fittingly, it was Cal Givens’ shot in the opening minute of the second half that broke a scoreless tie and gave the Blazers all they would need.
UHA coach Josh Nichols said his team made an adjustment at halftime and Givens executed their plan perfectly for his score 27 seconds into the second half.
Hayden Hunt sealed the win when he scored with 7:30 to go on a pass from Griffin McCoy for the 2-0 lead.
The Blazers outshot the Colonels 18-8 in the game and improved to 14-7 on the season. The Colonels slip to 12-7.
Christian County coach Avery Seeger said his team was disappointed with the outcome but would have to rebound for next week’s region tournament
Both teams will advance to next week’s Region 2 tournament at the Stadium of Champions. The draw for the boys’ and girls’ Region 2 tournament, which is set for Madisonville next week, will be this morning around 9 a.m.
