University Heights Academy overcame an early 2-0 deficit and defeated visiting Muhlenberg County 9-4 Thursday night in a high school baseball game.
Courtland Gibson went 2-for-3 with a double, triple, and four RBI to lead UHA at the plate.
Muhlenberg County (2-3) took a 2-0 lead using three walks and a hit batter in the top of the first inning.
The No. 16-ranked Blazers (4-1) scored a run in the bottom of the second and Hunt’s blast over the left-center fence tied the game 2-2 in the third inning. The Blazers took the lead 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
UHA made it 6-2 in the fifth as Gibson’s two-run double was the big hit.
After Muhlenberg cut the lead to 6-4 in the top of the sixth, UHA scored three more runs in the bottom of the frame with Gibson providing a two-run triple.
Jackson Flynn picked up the pitching win for UHA, which used seven hurlers in the win. Flynn struck out one and walked one in an inning of work. Bryson Turner shut the door on the Mustangs for the final two innings, striking out four and walking one.
Ryan Luckey, Hunt, and Aiden Jones each had a pair of hits for UHA.
The Blazers jump back into action Saturday in Somerset as they will take on No. 4-ranked Sayre and No. 11 Frederick Douglass.
