A Fort Campbell soldier was found deceased on Fort Campbell Monday.
That was confirmed to WHOP News by Lieutenant Colonel Martin Meiners, who identified the soldier as Specialist Stephen Akinlotan of Virginia, a 21-year-old a Infantryman who was assigned to the 3rd Mobile Brigade “Rakkasans”, 101st Airborne Division, Air Assault.
He joined the Army in 2021 and completed training at Fort Benning, Georgia before coming to Fort Campbell in 2022. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Air Assault Badge. The incident and cause of death are under investigation.
The details around his death currently remain unknown, with the cause under investigation.
Colonel Rick Turner, the commander of the 3rd Mobile Brigade says, “The death of Specialist Akinlotan is a tragic moment for every RAKKASAN Soldier past and present, and my heart aches for this young Soldier’s family and friends. Stephen was a caring and beloved Soldier who proudly served his nation at home and overseas. Our hearts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fellow Soldiers in this difficult time.”
