Senator Mitch McConnell’s Office recently announced that Fort Campbell is set to receive federal funding for the construction of a new air traffic control tower and the design of an aircraft hangar.
According to McConnell’s office, Fort Campbell’s current air traffic control tower was built in 1975 and is among the oldest still in use by the U.S. Army. The new tower will reportedly provide better support for the military installation’s fast pace of operations. Fort Campbell will receive $45 million for the new tower.
Fort Campbell has also reportedly been dealing with a shortage of aircraft hangar space for its CH-47 Chinook Helicopters. The new hangar should alleviate that shortage and the military installation will receive $11 million for its design.
Christian County Military Affairs Committee Director Shannon Lane says they are grateful for McConnell’s advocacy for Fort Campbell and his commitment to strengthening the installation and the community that supports it.
