WYMT television reported Tuesday night that former University Heights Academy boys’ basketball coach Randy McCoy passed away Tuesday at the age of 69.
McCoy coached the Blazers to the 2008 All “A”State Basketball Tournament championship and the 2008 Region 2 championship.
He won the 15th Region Championship at Elkhorn City and took Pikeville College to a NAIA Final Four in 2001 and won the 15th Region All “A” Championship in 2017.
McCoy retired from coaching basketball in Kentucky in 2019 and moved to Florida, but recently returned to the sidelines as the Island Coast High School’s head boys basketball coach in Cape Coral, Florida.
