A former Murray Police Department officer is facing new charges out of Trigg County as investigation into the allegations against him continue.
According to Kentucky State Police, former Sergeant, 44-year-old Justin Swope of Calloway County, was already facing multiple charges out of Calloway and Trigg County, including third-degree rape, third-degree sodomy, numerous counts of promoting a sexual performance by a minor, first-degree sexual abuse and unlawful transaction with a minor under the age of 16 illegal sex act, totaling 30 counts against him.
Now, a Trigg County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against Swope for eight additional charges, which are one count of unlawful transaction with a minor under the age of 16 illegal sex act, three counts of third-degree sodomy, one count of third-degree rape and three counts of first-degree sexual abuse.
The investigation began in May when allegations of sexual abuse of a minor were made against Swope. Detectives determined that Swope allegedly met a victim in his official capacity in 2018 when the victim was 15-years-old.
Swope is lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center, where he has been lodged since his arrest in May.
