Christian Fiscal Court made quick work of the agenda at Tuesday morning’s meeting, where they heard reports and approved an amendment to the fiscal year budget for 2024-2025.
Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam says the amendments, which were approved on first-reading, make way for additional dollars from recent grants they were awarded, to go towards projects such as new tornado shelters in the county and more.
Magistrates also approved the adoption of an affiliation with the Christian County Rescue Team, along with the annual search and rescue plan.
During reports, Christian County Regional Animal Shelter Director Melissa Goff presented the monthly reporting, informing magistrates that in the month of December of 2024, the shelter took in 328 animals, with 262 animals either finding homes or going to rescue services.
To start the meeting, Judge Gilliam read a proclamation in honor of one-time local businessman and veteran James “Ralph” Cochran Sr. who just recently celebrated his 102nd birthday, recognizing for his service to both this county and this nation.
Cochran was the owner of Cornette’s Office Supply for many years in Hopkinsville and was a radio operator in World War II from 1943 until 1946.
Family members and veteran officials are asking for those who hold a memory of him and his time in Hopkinsville to send him a card or a letter as a birthday gift.
All mail can be sent to a family member of Cochran—addressed as Mr. Ralph Cochran, c/o Darrell Olsen, 386 Nancy Drive, Elizabethtown, KY 42701.
