The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center was right on the money with Wednesday’s forecast, as numerous areas experienced severe weather, from very large hail to dangerous tornadoes.
At one point Wednesday afternoon there were tornado warnings from Michigan all the way down to the Gulf, making for a dangerous severe weather outbreak. Places in Missouri and Arkansas were devastated by tornadoes and more locally, Murray is cleaning up damage this morning from an apparent, significant tornado that tracked near downtown.
Paducah also sustained damage from an apparent tornado, with the National Weather Service in Paducah itself having to take cover, as they were very nearly hit by it.
Luckily, Christian, Todd and Trigg counties seem to have avoided the worst of the damage, though we had more than our fair share of severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings all the way into the early morning.
Don’t let your guard down this week—we have major flooding in the forecast and more severe weather could spin back up, so stay tuned to the WHOP Family of Stations and the National Weather Service in Paducah for any watches or warnings that develop.
