Federal grant to support student services at Hopkinsville Community College

Hopkinsville Community College received a five-year federal grant totaling over $1.7 million from the U.S. Department of Education with the goal of increasing student retention.

Over the next five years the grant is set to annually provide $352,000 toward HCC’s TRIO Student Support Services which offers tutoring, advising, skill workshops, university transfer trips and financial literacy counseling.

By supporting those services, HCC officials hope to increase retention rates among first-generation students, disabled students and those from low-income backgrounds.

In a news release, HCC President Alissa Young says this grant ensures they can keep delivering essential services that students rely on to succeed in college and earn their degrees. HCC Student Support Services Tutor Coordinator Jesse Frailey says he’s seen firsthand the benefits of the services and is excited to continue helping provide them.
