Investigation into an explosion in Lyon County has resulted in charges against a Princeton man.
According to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department, multiple calls were made to law enforcement at approximately 7:45 p.m. Saturday from the Eddy Creek and Saratoga communities from residents that heard and felt a loud explosion. Several deputies responded to the area.
A search located a large crater on the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers federal property off of Eddy Creek Road. Along with the crater, multiple items were located, including a large quantity of a binary and improvised explosive combination.
That included a mixture of over 100 pounds of aluminum powder and an additional fuel source—a rifle was likely used in the incident, according to officials.
An investigation by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office led to the home of 19-year-old Bo Winters of Princeton. He was charged with criminal mischief, criminal littering and disorderly conduct in relation to the explosion.
The investigation continues and additional charges are pending against other individuals.
