Members of the South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council received a construction progress update on the consolidated Christian County High School and discussed what this year’s SWK Ignite program will include at their Monday meeting.
The consolidated high school is set to have a career academy curriculum model. The school will include a freshman academy and three career academies. School District Technology Director, Jason Wilson says construction is well underway on the four academies, the main waterline has been installed and utility and gas installations are underway.
Council Executive Director Carter Hendricks, says the school’s career academy model will be instrumental to ensuring that students will graduate career ready. The academy model will also be a strong selling point to industries who are planning to create facilities in the region.
Further spotlighting student career readiness, Hendricks provided an update on the council’s SWK Ignite program. The program serves to help graduating high school students who don’t plan to attend college or join the military find employment.
This school year, Hendricks says the program will be connecting students to regional industries such as Huhtamaki, Novelis, Martinrea, JTEKT and many others.
Students will have the opportunity to receive tours of regional industries and get glimpse into everyday work life from industry professionals.
