Businesses in Downtown Hopkinsville are inviting the community to explore local art and music at the first Art After Dark on Thursday evening.
Kate Russell is the co-owner of the Hopkinsville Brewing Company and is also playing a key role in organizing Art After Dark. When the Downtown Entertainment District was established, Russell says she and fellow downtown business owners saw it as an opportunity to collaborate and host an event.
During the brainstorming process, Russell says somebody brought up Clarksville’s Art Walk and they decided to host something similar.
All downtown restaurants and businesses are invited to participate and Russell says many stores have extended their hours of operation into the evening. Bella Marie Boutique, Clayton’s Downtown Market, Charlotte’s on 6th, Joyful Consignment, Milkweed Health and Harmony Emporium and The Wellness Collective are set to have extended hours.
Downtown businesses will also be hosting regional artists, Sam Dazey Face Painting, Luna Creations, photographer the Jaunty Jabberwocky, Gilded Sage Hair Tinsel, Christine Roth Ceramics, Renee Griffin Jewelry and The Collective270.
Then the Book and Bottle Shop, The Crusty Pig and The Mixer will have live music. The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library is set to host activities at Camo Caravan and there will be a free yoga class at the brewing company.
Russell says she’s excited to bring something new to the downtown area while spotlighting local businesses, artists and musicians.
Art After Dark takes over downtown Hopkinsville from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday. For those who can’t make it on Thursday, Art After Dark returns on August 28, September 25 and October 23.
