Dossett talks future of agriculture education, development across the state

As the Kentucky General Assembly concludes for its 2025 short session, Representative Myron Dossett of Pembroke spotlighted new laws set to impact local agriculture and his hopes for next year’s session.

Dossett says his first year as Chair of the Kentucky House Agriculture Committee was a great success, and is working to bring valuable agricultural opportunities to Christian County.

He explains that the agriculture industry is shifting its focus toward economic development. In a conversation with Commissioner Jonathan Shell, Dossett says they discussed creating more agri-industrial sites across the state.

He adds that this initiative could be very important to the future of Christian County and its existing industrial parks.

Among the bills that were vetoed was a bill that planned to support the future of ag. education starting with Jefferson County and eventually expanding to the entire commonwealth.

He says the bill allowed Jefferson County to develop programs similar to those in Christian County, where high school students can gain hands-on experience by working as interns in their chosen fields.

Dossett is confident the legislation will be sponsored again during next year’s session and he looks forward to supporting it for a second time.

That’s a piece of the 2025 Kentucky General Assembly agriculture wrap up, stay tuned for more.
