In a battle of two of the top girls’ basketball teams in Region 2, the Christian County Lady Colonels held off visiting Crittenden County 56-49 on Tuesday night.
The Lady Colonels closed the game on an 11-4 run to improve to 15-9 on the season while the Lady Rockets slipped to 17-5.
The teams traded leads and were tied numerous times throughout the game. Christian County led 17-15 after one quarter, 31-27 at the half and 44-40 after three quarters.
Crittenden County was able to tie the game at 45 for the final time midway through the fourth quarter.
Ne’Vaeh Day and Lazarie Daniel would then take over in the final minutes as the Lady Colonels opened up a 50-47 advantage. Day would lead Christian County with 20 points on the night and Daniel added 12.
After a Day blocked shot, sophomore Genesis McGee knocked down a pair of free throws for a 52-47 lead with less than a minute to play. DEbony Anderson later converted a steal into a layup that gave the Lady Colonels their biggest lead of the game at 56-47. Anderson would finish with 10 points on the night.
A layup at the buzzer by Crittenden ended the scoring.
Christian County played without second leading scorer Anaysia Bagwell and Crittenden suffered a loss when starting guard Elliott Evans had to leave the game late in the first quarter. She was not able to return.
Freshman Jordyn Hodge led the Lady Rockets with 20 points and junior guard Anna Boone had 14.
The Lady Colonels return to action Saturday afternoon at Union County.
