High school students across the state are fast-tracking their education through dual credit opportunities available with the Kentucky Community and Technical College Systems.
The dual credit program expands access to college-level courses and allows high school students to receive both high school and college credits at a cheaper rate than at a traditional university. KCTCS reported a 12.5% increase in enrollment in the dual credit programs, with over 36,000 students enrolled during the 2023-2024 school year.
According to a news release from KCTCS, during the Fall 2024 semester, community college institutions were able to save families nearly $15 million in tuition costs by offering dual enrollment courses. KCTCS President Dr. Ryan Quarles adds that the program is a strategic investment in the future of Kentucky’s economy and workforce.
The state government supports the program by providing two scholarship opportunities for high school students. The Dual Credit Scholarship and the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship cover the full cost of several courses during each school year. To learn more about the program, visit kctcs.edu.
