Colonels roll past Fort Campbell in District 8 game

The Christian County Colonels picked up their third straight victory, cruising past visiting Fort Campbell 75-43 Wednesday night in a boys’ District 8 basketball game.

Rahsean Stevenson scored 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Colonels. Jayovontae Henderson added 11 points as the Colonels improved to 9-11 on the season.

Christian County broke open a close game by outscoring the Falcons 24-6 in the second quarter. Stephenson and Henderson led the way during the run.

In what is likely the final game between the two programs, the Colonels went deep into their bench in the fourth quarter but still outscored the Falcons, 21-7, to pull away for the big win.

Fort Campbell slipped to 8-14 on the season and was led by Tyreek Anthony’s 20 points. Kyre Ferguson added 11 points for the Falcons, who played without starting guard Garrett Vannatta, who was injured against Heritage Christian Academy on Tuesday night.

Former Christian County star Doug Gott, who has refereed in Region 4 for more than 30 years was part of the officiating crew on Wednesday night.

Junior guard Zion Acree, who has been out for more than a month due to an illness, also returned to play for Christian County on Wednesday and scored two points.

The Colonels are back in action tonight at University Heights Academy in a game that will decide the No. 2 seed in the District 8 Tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. with airtime at 7:15 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com. Tickets are limited and must be purchased before the game at Gofan.com.
