For the second week in a row, overtime action was seen at Lyle Dunbar Gymnasium for Christian County.
Last week was the Lady Colonels in their win against Henderson Co., but this week it was the fellas’ turn as they fell to the Bowling Green Purples 65-53 for the second year in a row having lost last year in OT 57-50.
Before the game, Coach Miles with Christian Co. made it known that 6’8″ senior Mason Ritter was going to be a key player for Bowling Green and that the Colonels were going to need to give him extra attention.
And extra attention was exactly what Ritter received, as he was forced to work extremely hard off the ball in the post.
Even with the pressure however, Ritter still managed to score 28 points.
The biggest star of the night for both teams though., was Derrell Bateman.
From pull-up jumpers, to fadeaways, to floaters, to runners, you name it. Bateman might have performed just about every scoring move in the book to score 37 points on the evening.
At halftime, Bateman had 21 of the 26 points for Christian Co.
Bowling Green had 23 at half as a team.
Bateman also sent the game in overtime hitting a deep right wing three with seconds left tying the game 51-51 and forcing OT.
A major outlier in the loss for the Colonels was foul trouble. Theo Quarles fouled out early in the fourth quarter while Jasean Riley and Bateman both fouled out in the overtime period.
With the loss of these players, the Colonels had no chance inside against Ritter, as we went on to dominate in the 4th and OT as the Purples outscored the Colonels 14-2 in overtime.
With the loss the Colonels move to 2-3 on the season and will look ahead towards Friday night where they will host their third game in a row playing against the Tigers of Hopkinsville in an 8th District battle.
