Colonels cruise past Crittenden behind Young

The Christian County Colonels scored six runs in the second inning and cruised past Crittenden County 8-2 Monday night in the Region 2 Baseball Tournament quarterfinals at Hopkinsville High School.

The game originally was scheduled for 7 p.m. at University Heights Academy, but heavy rain that fell in the area on Thursday morning, forced the game to be moved to Tiger Field. The first pitch came around 8:35 p.m.

It didn’t take the Colonels long to take care of business.

In the first inning, Christian County (22-15) pushed across a run when Layton Creamer singled home Blake Boehman.

The Colonels blew open the game with a six-run second inning, taking advanage of three walks, a hit batter, and three hits. Sebastian Dazey had a two-run double in the frame and Gavin Mitchell had a two-run single.

As the Colonels began to sub in younger players, Crittenden County scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning. Quinn Summers tripled into the left-center gap to bring home Hudson Stokes and Keagan Pierson.

However, the Colonels got a run back in the bottom of the sixth when Boehman was hit by a pitch, moved to second when Creamer was struck by a pitch, and stole third base. Boehman came in to score on a wild pitch.

Meanwhile, Nolan Young was strong on the mound for the Colonels. The sophomore scattered five hits and struck out seven batters in the complete-game win.

At the plate, Mitchell had a pair of hits and drove in two runs and Dazey also had two RBI for Christian County, which advances to play Caldwell County in tonight’s 8 p.m. semifinals. The Tigers escaped Webster County 3-2 in eight innings on Monday.

Airtime tonight is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
