The Christian County High School wrestling team used a pair of championships from Anthony Velasco and Dane Miller and three runner-up finishes to edge Fort Campbell and win the Christian County Invitational Wrestling Tournament Saturday.
The Colonels scored 211 points to edge Fort Campbell (190) for the title. Clarksville Rossview (178.5), Daviess County (122) and Caldwell County (120) rounded out the top five.
Velasco won the 113-pound championship and Miller took home the gold medal in the 144-pound division.
Finishing runner-up for the Colonels were Kevondre Young (126), Isaiah Davidson (190), Treshawn Crenshaw (heavyweight).
Tay Martinez earned a bronze medal finish in the 165-pound division.
Deacon Harrison (150) and Iyobosa Ogbes (157) took home fourth-pace finishes. Jaiden Williams (165) was fifth and Malachi James (106), Nathan Harrison (120) and Markee Atwell (138) finished sixth.
“It was a great team effort that helped us win the tournament as a team,” Christian County coach Dee Leavell said. “We had several other wrestlers win one or two matches yesterday. This team is growing up right in front of us.”
