To improve local outdoor recreation, the City of Madisonville announced that the trail system at Mahr Park Arboretum is set to be extended by 0.65 miles.
On Tuesday, Madisonville officials announced that they received approval to start phase three of their Recreational trail Program Grant project. According to a news release, the extension will connect to the park’s current trail and will travel from the parking area along Mahr Mark Road, across Forefar Lane and conclude at the parking lot near Event Barn A.
Mahr Park was gifted to the City of Madisonville by Dr. Merle and Glema Mahr in 2009 and opened in 2016. Park Superintendent Ashton Robinson says the trail extension is a reflection of the Mahrs’ legacy and impact on Madisonville.
Madisonville Mayor Kevin Cotton says they are thrilled to see phase three of trail project move forward and the extension will enhance accessibility, improve safety and create new opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy.
