City Council discusses flood recovery, approves zoning ordinances

Hopkinsville City Council discussed flood recovery efforts and approved zoning ordinances for properties along Cadiz Road and Lafayette Road at their Monday meeting.

Parts of southern Hopkinsville remain flooded following historic levels of rainfall during the first week of April. Hopkinsville Mayor J.R. Knight says the city has been working to connect flood victims to resources and water removal efforts are underway in the Windmill Farms Subdivision area. Knight says pumps have been set up, but so far it has been a slow process.

FEMA officials were in town recently to assess the damages and Knight says the agency is set to establish temporary offices in Hopkinsville and Oak Grove to help with disaster recovery assistance. Knight reminded folks to document all damages before making repairs.

Turning toward zoning, the council approved an ordinance zoning a portion of land off of Lafayette Road near Tie Breaker Park as a multi-family residential district. The property is currently the site of a housing development called Barrow Development which is set to include 132 housing units.

The council also approved zoning a property along Cadiz Road near Old Major Lane as an agricultural transition district and a single-family residential district.

On the second reading, the council approved a revenue bond agreement with Toyota Boshoku. The agreement allows Toyota to receive property tax incentives.
