An investigation is underway after a young child sustained a gunshot wound to the head in Hopkinsville Monday evening.
According to Captain Payton Rogers with the Hopkinsville Fire Department and EMS, crews responded to a residence in the 1000 block of East Ninth Street just before 8:30 p.m. for reports that a young boy had been shot in the head.
Crews found the child at the scene and rushed him to the helipad at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in critical condition, where he was then flown to Vanderbilt Pediatrics in Nashville.
Hopkinsville police are investigating and Public Information Officer Justin Rios says no foul play is suspected at this time. There was no update on the child’s condition as of Tuesday morning.
