It’s starting to get colder outside, which means thoughts are starting to turn towards the holidays, and that includes with Christian County Public Schools.
Superintendent Chris Bentzel says they’ll make this second nine-weeks heading into winter break a good one, and he thinks it’s been an overall successful year so far, with high attendance numbers, great community events—some even hosted by the students themselves—and now they’ll be trying to connect with their parents.
Speaking of those attendance numbers, Bentzel says he’s very proud of the students for dedication to being in class as much as possible, as they’ve been averaging about 94 to 95 percent attendance all year.
There’s already been murmurings of the word ‘snow’, though not much of it is expected in any forecast at this time, and Bentzel says they’ve already hammered out the protocols for snow days. He says they will utilize non-traditional instruction (NTI) days when they can—and they have ten they can use in the event of bad weather.
As for the snow days themselves, Superintendent Bentzel says they try to have a decision on whether there will be school or not as early as possible—either by 5 p.m. the night before, or before 5 a.m. the day of.
A celebration was held on Monday, honoring the Christian County High School Marching Band, which took home its first State Championship win in this school’s history earlier this season. Bentzel says he can’t wait to see where the bands go in the future under the one school umbrella.
