In Kentucky, children entering kindergarten must five years old before August 1, but the Christian County Public School System allows parents to submit petitions for their children to start elementary school if they are still four years old.
Parents who want their children to start kindergarten early in the 2026-27 must submit a petition by March 31. Guardians must request a Petition for Early Enrollment from a guidance counselor at the child’s zoned-school and submit it back to them once it’s completed.
The petition will be reviewed, and the child will later have to complete the Brigance Assessment, which determines their school readiness. Following the assessment, guardians will receive a letter either approving or denying the child’s early kindergarten entry.
