CCHS’s McCarley, Johnson earn State track meet bids

Christian County’s CJ McCarley qualified for the KHSAA State Track and Field Meet in two events Friday in the Class 3-A, Region 1 meet at Paducah Tilghman High School. McCarley qualified in the Discus and Shot Put events.

McCarley had a toss of 143-feet, 11 inches in the Discus and a throw of 47 fee in the Shot Put.

Meanwhile, Kristen Johnson qualified for the state meet by taking second place in the 100-meter Dash at the region meet. Johnson finished with a time of 11:09 seconds.

Several Colonels are waiting to find out if their times are good enough to receive at-large bids to the state meet. Colonels’ coach Joe Leavell said he is confident that Satona Bailey will earn a bid in the 100-meter (third, 11:16) and 200-meter dash (fourth, 22.78). He also said Johnson could earn a spot in the 200-meter dash (fifth, 22.92).

Iyobosa Ogbes (fourth at region) had a high jump of 5-feet, 10 inches and could also be in the running for a bid to the state meet.

Leavell said his 200-meter relay team of Bailey, Paul Grace, Ogbes and Johnson could also earn a spot in the meet. The relay team finished third in the regional with a time of 1:32.58.

The Colonels finished sixth as a team. Marshall County won the team title and McCracken County was second.

The Lady Colonels did not have anyone qualify for the state meet, although Symeria Brown was third in the 400-meter dash (1:02.88) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (27.33).
