The Christian County Lady Colonels advanced into the Region 2 Volleyball Tournament semifinals with a dominating 3-0 victory over Livingston Central Monday night at Hopkins County Central High School.
The Lady Colonels trailed only once in the match and that was 1-0 to begin the third set.
Christian County improved to 20-16 on the season after taking the match 25-13, 25-15, 25-6 over the Lady Cardinals.
In the first set, Christian County jumped out to a 15-4 lead behind the strong play of Katie Cansler, Taylor Cantrell, Ashlea Russell, and Shiloh Baker.
Cansler finished the set with three kills while Russell had a kill, a block and an ace. Cantrell finished with a block and a kill and Baker had a kill and two aces.
In the second set, the Lady Colonels took a 3-0 lead only to see the Lady Cardinals battle back to cut the advantage to 4-3. However, a 7-2 run by Christian County pushed the lead to 11-5 and the Lady Cardinals never got closer than four points the rest of the way.
Cansler had four kills, Kiley Lambert had a pair of kills, and Kaidence Atwell had three kills. Russell provided a kill and two aces in the set.
Livingston took its only lead of the match to begin the third set at 1-0. But a 12-1 run by the Lady Colonels gave Christian County control at 12-2.
Atwell shined in the set with three kills and an ace and Cansler had four more kills.
Christian County’s serving also was a key in the set as Russell had three aces and Katherine Wood also had a pair of aces, including the final two to close out the match.
The Lady Colonels will take on Henderson County at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the semifinals. Henderson swept past Madisonville-North Hopkins in the second semifinal Monday.
Meanwhile, defending Region 2 champion Heritage Christian Academy will take on District 7 champion Caldwell County at 5:30 p.m. tonight in the first semifinal match. Crittenden County and Webster County meet in the second semifinal at 7 p.m.
