The Girls’ District 8 Basketball Tournament championship is on the line tonight as the Christian County Lady Colonels take on Hopkinsville at 6 p.m. in Tiger Gym.
The Lady Colonels are the top seed in the tournament and come into the game 16-9. Hoptown is 10-11 after beating Fort Campbell 74-37 in the semifinals on Monday night.
Christian County, which has not played since Feb. 17 when it beat Caldwell County 75-52, swept Hopkinsville during the regular season, winning 68-29 and 57-37.
The Lady Colonels also swept Hoptown during the regular season a year ago only to see the Lady Tigers upset them in the district championship.
Christian County coach Kiki Radford said her team is determined not to have history repeat itself.
Hopkinsville enters the game on a two-game winning streak.
Lady Tigers’ coach Keith Leslie said he likes how his team is coming together at the right time.
Both teams have already qualified for the Region 2 tournament next week at Christian County High School. However, the winning team tonight will draw a district runner-up while the losing team tonight will face a district winner in the regional first round next week.
Tonight’s game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m. with airtime at 5:45 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm.
Tickets to the game are $10 and are cash only at the door. No bags or purses are allowed into the gym.
