It was an emotional night for the Christian County Colonels, who not only bid farewell to eight seniors, but also played their final home baseball game at Colonel Field on Thursday night.
Christian County got a complete-game one-hitter from senior pitcher Drew Fincham and blasted visiting Trigg County 11-1 in five innings.
All eight seniors started the game for Christian County, including Jace Blue, who suffered a near fatal asthma attack six years ago and took his place in center field to start the game for the first time in his high school career.
Trigg (6-19) scored first as leadoff batter James Garnett walked and came in to score after a single and error.
The Colonels took a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning as senior Gage Monte singled, followed by a double from Chase Fort and a double by senior Blake Boehman. Senior Andrew Mayes also had an RBI-single in the inning and senior Sebastian Dazey had a sacrifice fly to score a run.
Senior Johnny Lewis led off the second inning with a single and stole two bases before Montes’ sacrifice fly made it 5-1. Fort then slammed a solo home run over the left field fence for a 6-1 advantage.
Christian County pushed its lead to 10-1 in the bottom of third inning on three hits and an error.
The final run came in the fourth when Dazey reached on a single and moved to third on an error. He came in to score on a sacrifice fly by senior Coalton Ingram.
Fort went 3-for-3 on the day and Lewis and Montes each had a pair of hits for the Colonels (19-14).
Christian County is scheduled to play at McLean County today before wrapping up its regular season Saturday at South Warren.
