Election Day is just around the corner on November 5, and the League of Women Voters hosted a forum Thursday evening where citizens got to hear from the two candidates running for State Representative in District 9.
Incumbent Republican Myron Dossett will have a challenger in Democrat Twyla Dillard on the ballot for the General Election, and they fielded questions on a variety of topics, from housing needs in the county, to period poverty in schools and a lot in between.
On the subject of Amendment 2—which would allow the state legislature to allocate state funds to private schools—Dossett says there’s been some misunderstandings on what that amendment would do. He says he supports that Amendment 2 would provide another choice for families.
Dillard was very much against Amendment 2, saying she feels it would take away from children who would more greatly benefit from that funding.
Both candidates expressed their love for Christian County and the communities within it. Dillard says if elected, she would focus on absorbing all she could learn, and she would focus her efforts on bettering the county for everyone.
Dossett says he already does all he can to advocate for and advance the county he loves, and he would continue to do that if re-elected.
There were things the two did agree on—including supporting legislation that would remove the sales tax from period products and bringing more housing the county, especially with economic announcements such as Buc-ee’s coming to the area.
