Caldwell County holds off Hopkinsville in Holiday Classic

The visiting Caldwell County Lady Tigers opened the game on a 9-0 run and then fought off a determined Hopkinsville squad for a 51-47 girls’ high school basketball win Thursday night in the first game of the Toyota of Hopkinsville Holiday Classic.

Hoptown, which trailed most of the entire first half, took a 33-32 lead with 7:45 to go only to see Caldwell go on a 4-0 run to regain the lead.

The game was tied again at 37, but Caldwell went on a 7-0 spurt to lead 44-37.

Hopkinsville (1-4) wasn’t done, as it cut the advantage to 47-46 with 2:15 to go and 48-47 with 1:45 left.

However, Tink Clark hit three of four free throws down the stretch to clinch the win for Caldwell County (2-2).

Clark led Caldwell with 12 points and KeDarriah Thompson added 10.

Hoptown was paced by Amani Pizana and Serenity Ewing, who both scored 10 points.

Hopkinsville returns to action Saturday night at Lyon County.
