A project to replace an aging bridge in Hopkins County is set to begin on June 24, with the project set to take place over the next couple of months.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the $1.5 million project to replace the bridge over Richland Creek on KY 70 will start next Monday and will require the aging bridge to be demolished, making way for a new structure.
There will be a marked detour in place, likely utilizing Carbondale Road, Witchcraft Road and Elva Road. Due to the presence of low and narrow overhead railroad crossings on that route, large commercial vehicles and farm equipment are urged to select a different route.
The new bridge should be open by the end of September, and will serve about 2,000 vehicles that use KY 70 each day.
