Former Hopkinsville HIgh School baseball player Easton McGee will not be starting the 2026 Major League Baseball season as part of the Milwaukee Brewers’ opening day roster as first reported.
According to a report by Adam McCalvy of Brewers.com, McGee was optioned to Triple-A Nashville less than a day before the team was scheduled to open the season against the Chicago White Sox.
According to McCalvy, the Brewers acquired right-handed pitcher Jake Woodruff in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. To make room on the 40-man roster, McGee, a 6-foot-7, right-hander, was optioned to Nashville.Â
Fanrecap.com reported late Monday that McGee was expected to fill a key role in the Brewers’ bullpen this season and was listed as being in the eighth spot in the team’s bullpen.
Last season, McGee bounced back and forth from Milwaukee to Nashville. He pitched 14 2/3 innings for the Brewers and had a 5.52 ERA. He struck out 13 batters and walked four.
The Nashville Sounds will battle the Norfolk Tides in an away matchup to open their season on Friday.
