Blazers take 3rd at Class 1-A, Region 1 cross country meet

University Heights Academy’s boys’ cross country team had five of its eight runners hit new personal records and the Blazers qualified for this weekend’s Class 1-A State Cross Country Meet in Lexington by taking third place overall in the Class 1-A, Region 1 Meet at Marshall County High School.

Senior Cole Glover became only the second Blazer runner to record three top three finishes at regionals as he ran the course in 17:29.21 to take third individual.

It was also the first time that UHA had four varsity runners in the top 15.

Middle schoolers Ronan Croney-Sallie and Graham Conrad finished ninth and 10th, respectively. Both had personal record times with Croney Sallie finishing in 18:32.54 and Conrad crossing the finish line in 18:37.22.

Jude Finch took 13th overall in a time of 18:54.14 and Garrett Bowling was 26th in 20:04.20, also a personal record. Zech Davis finished 29th in 20:24.26 and middle schooler Scar Venable was 37th with a personal best 21:28.56.

Dawson Springs’ Easton Bowerland won the meet, scoring the course in 17:20.38. He led the Panthers to their sixth straight Class 1-A, Region 1 cross country championship.

Murray was second and UHA took third, followed by Fort Campbell and Hickman County.

In the girls’ meet, UHA’s Molly Cavinder became the first Lady Blazer cross country runner to qualify for the state meet since 2019. Cavinder finished 20th with a personal-best time of 28:01.15.

Jade Green of Murray was first in a time of 20:43.70.

Dawson Springs won the team championship. Murray was second and Crittenden County took third.
