A three-run seventh inning provided visiting University Heights Academy with a 7-4 high school baseball win over Paducah Tilghman Monday night.
The win wasn’t without some trepidation in the final two innings for the Blazers.
Clinging to a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth, the Blazers’ Thomas Hallmark got a strikeout with bases loaded to thwart a Blue Tornado scoring threat. The Blazers also picked off a runner at second base in the frame.
After scoring three runs in the top of the seventh to push their lead to 7-2, UHA had to fend off Tilghman again in the bottom of the final inning. This time, the Blue Tornado plated a pair of runs to cut the gap to 7-4. Cadence Gibson got a pair of strikeouts to end the game.
Hayden Hunt went 3-for-4 and AJ Hogart drove in a pair of runs for the sixth-ranked Blazers (14-2). UHA had 14 hits in the win. Ryan Luckey, Cadence Gibson, Courtland Gibson, and Ty Grace each had two hits.
UHA is scheduled to play host to Marshall County tonight.
