The Pennyroyal Arts Council kicked off its 2025-26 season last week, and Executive Director Margaret Prim appeared on WHOP to share what events they have coming to the historic Alhambra Theatre.
The council show season kicked off on Thursday with Jazz On Stage, and the Live at the Alhambra Series starts on October 18 with “One Night in Memphis,” a show spotlighting artists Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins who recorded music at Sun Records.
The theatre also got an audio system upgrade over the summer, and Prim says the sound is so good now that it brought her tears when she initially heard the improvement.
Theatre upgrades are largely supported by the council’s fundraising efforts. On November 22, the community is invited to the council’s biggest annual fundraiser, the Hoptown Holiday Hopfest. Prim says the festival will include country music singer-songwriter and Grammy award winner Deana Carter.
During her career, Carter had three number one hits on the Billboard Country Charts: “Strawberry Wine,” “We Danced Anyway,” and How Do I Get There.” This marks the 11th year of the festival and since its inception it has raised over $140,000.
