George Rogers Clark won the Boys’ Sweet 16 State Basketball Tournament championship 58-50 over Louisville St. Xavier on Saturday night at Rupp Arena.
It was a big weekend locally, as Region 2 Basketball Official of the Year Josh Birdsong was part of the crew that worked the state title game.
In addition, former Trigg County High School basketball coach Mike Wright, who was an assistant for Hopkinsville High School this season, was inducted into the Kentucky Basketball Coaches Association Court of Honor.
Former University Heights Academy basketball coach Jeff Jackson was honored for winning more than 700 career games. Jackson is now the coach at Lincoln County High School.
And, UHA senior soccer player and former track athlete Clayton Lester was named one of two Outstanding Ag Athletes of the Year.
