The region is under a slight risk for severe weather Wednesday afternoon and evening, but attention is turning to Sunday, where there could be a more substantial risk for severe weather.
The main threats for severe weather Wednesday will be damaging winds and large hail—though the tornado risk is not zero—and it’s possible that not everyone sees stormy weather. Sunday looks to bring a more widespread severe threat, according to Meteorologist Justin Gibbs with the National Weather Service in Paducah.
He says they are somewhat concerned at the severe trends for Sunday, especially since it will be Memorial Day Weekend and people will like be out and enjoying the weather.
Gibbs urges people to just stay weather aware and be prepared to take action if you’re outside and a severe storm rolls up on you.
The Storm Prediction Center has already highlight all of western Kentucky under a 30 percent chance of severe weather on Sunday, so stay tuned to the WHOP Family of Stations for updates on this developing storm system.
