Zirconia Vansauwa from Sanctuary, Inc. recently appeared on WHOP where she shared some community events they have planned for the summer and an upcoming donation drive that is set to benefit students.
Sanctuary is a domestic violence and sexual assault victim advocacy and support nonprofit that operates in the Pennyrile region.
April was Sexual Assault Awareness Month and throughout the month Sanctuary hosted a series of events to raise awareness and share what resources are available to assault survivors. One of the events planned for April, Tea and Talk, was cancelled and Vansauwa shared that it has been rescheduled to June 27 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Milkweed Health & Harmony Emporium.
Tea and Talk is set to be a safe place for assault survivors to provide support to one another and also talk with a therapist from Sanctuary. Those interested in attending can RSVP by calling Milkweed Health & Harmony Emporium at 270-719-0951.
With schools out for summer, Vansauwa says they are looking for community partners for their back-to-school donation drive set to provide clothes, shoes and supplies for the children of Sanctuary clients.
This year, Vansauwa says the donation drive will operate similarly to the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program where those in need will provide their clothing and shoe sizes along with what they like and a donor can shop for them.
To provide some summer fun for Sanctuary connected children, Vansauwa says they are hosting Camp Sanctuary for their clients who might not be able to afford other summer camps. Vansauwa says so far they have partnered with Bluegrass Splash and the Fun Zone who have donated vouchers to Sanctuary families.
Vansauwa says they are open to forming more partnerships with local businesses and organizations to provide more fun for children. Additional information about Sanctuary and what the nonprofit has planned for the summer can be found at Sanctuary, Inc. on Facebook.
