Members of the Hopkinsville Rotary Club are inviting the community to participate in their upcoming golf scramble and their 74th annual auction, both which serve to raise funds to benefit local students pursuing higher education.
Rotarians Jake Williams and Kelly Gates appeared on WHOP on Tuesday to share what the club has planned. Williams, who is coordinating the golf scramble, says they started with 27 team spots and now there is only one spot left.
Williams says the funds raised from the golf scramble will go toward the auction and academic scholarships for students. Along with searching for that final team to register, Williams says those who may not golf but want to support the event can sponsor holes on the course and competitions set to take place at the scramble.
Those interested in registering as the final team or sponsoring the event can contact Williams at 731-234-9216. The golf scramble is on April 19 at the Hopkinsville Golf and Country Club. The event starts off with registration at 11:30 a.m. and lunch at noon before teams take their spots on the course and tee off at 12:30 p.m.
Gates, who is the auction chair, shared that they are still looking for items to auction off. In the past Rotary has auctioned off between 700 to 800 items and Gates invited businesses to share items or services they would want to advertise.
Gates also shared how the money will specifically benefit local students. Funds raised at the auction will go toward the Rotary Scholars Program which provides full ride scholarships for associate degrees at Hopkinsville Community College and much more.
Gates says Rotary will also award scholarships to students who want to work toward their bachelor’s degree, receive a certification or attend trade school.
