Hopkinsville police have charged a Hopkinsville man with strangulation and assault following an incident on Poston Avenue Friday morning.
According to the police report, officers responded to the 1000 block of Poston around 7 a.m. for reports of an assault. Preliminary investigation determined that 54-year-old Jonathan Watkins of Hopkinsville had been an altercation with the female victim when it became physical. He allegedly grabbed the victim by the throat, slamming her into a wall several times and punching her in the mouth.
The victim reportedly had a visibly swollen and blood lip and was treated by EMS at the scene.
Watkins was arrested at a location on Beech Street later that morning and charged with first-degree strangulation and fourth-degree assault.
