Sanctuary launches public capital campaign to support facility relocation

Earlier this year, Sanctuary, Inc. Executive Director Heather Lancaster announced their plans to relocate their facility to better serve those in need, and on Tuesday, the nonprofit launched the public phase of its “Courage to Begin Again Campaign.”

Sanctuary provides healing and support services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault across the nine counties of the Pennyrile region. The agency has been located at its current facility for over two decades and the idea to relocate sprouted in 2022.

In a news release, Lancaster says the relocation is about more than establishing a new building, it will allow them to create a space that better reflects the dignity, safety and hope every survivor deserves.

The fundraising goal for the campaign is $2 million, and the nonprofit has currently raised around $1.46 million. Capital Campaign Chair Marsha Garnett says every dollar invested helps ensure that survivors have access to safe shelter, compassionate services and the support they need to move forward with confidence.

The new facility is set to be fully ADA-compliant and more energy efficient than the current facility. The facility will also have:

  • Secure and private parking for clients and staff
  • Emergency shelter rooms and apartment-style living accommodations for families
  • Residential and non-residential service wings
  • Meeting and flexible gathering spaces
  • A children’s playroom
  • A shared kitchen
  • A green space for recreational and therapeutic purposes
