Saturday brings a full slate of events for the 75th Western Kentucky State Fair, including the ever-popular Demolition Derby and it’s pageant day at the fair.
Despite rain that lingered through most of the evening, it was a pretty decent turnout for the opening night of the WKSF Friday, with 2,857 people making their way through the entrance gates. That’s a difference of 331 compared to last year’s total, showing that people were ready to have fun at the fair, regardless of the weather.
Things get started 9 a.m. Saturday morning, starting bright and early with the 4-H/FFA Swine Show and the pageants get started at 10 a.m. in the air-conditioned convention center, starting with Infant Pageant. Organizer Megan Marsh says after that it’s the Baby and Tiny Tot pageants, and she says they’re still looking for little participants.
The gates open for the general public at 4 p.m. Saturday, with $30 unlimited ride armband night, the Ms. And Mrs. WKSF Pageant starting at 5:30 p.m. and the Miss WKSF happening at 7 p.m. all in the convention center. The Demolition Derby gets underway at 7 p.m. and Marsh says it’s going to be a great time to bring a friend and cheer on your favorite driver.
And visitors to the fair may notice an abundance of rides this year, and Marsh says that’s by design, as they’ve brought back some long-time favorites, new rides and some that may cause a little nostalgia in honor of their 75th.
Admission to the WKSF is $3, with children two years old and younger getting in free and military with ID only $1. It’s $10 to get into the grandstands for adults and $5 for those 12 and under. The Demolition Derby is one the fair’s most popular events, so you might get there a little early to find your seat.
