The Hoptown Hoppers dropped a 9-7 Ohio Valley League baseball game to host Fulton Railroaders last night.
Hoptown trailed 9-3 entering the sixth inning. However, Nathan Jessup homered and Chance Sweeney added a two-run single as part of a four-run frame to draw within 9-7.
The Hoppers only managed one hit over the last 2 1/3 innings and couldn’t get any closer as they fell to 7-3 .
Cole Reynolds, Evan Jacob, Jessup, Karsyn Knowles, and Owen Hutchinson all recorded two hits in the game for Hoptown, which had 11 hits in the game.
Former Hopkinsville High School and Christian County High School pitcher Andrew Mayes pitched 3 2/3 innings of relief and struck out two while only allowing one hit.
An error helped the Hoppers take a 1-0 lead in the first inning before Owen Phillips homered to tie the game for Fulton in the bottom of the second.
A four-run third inning gave the Railroaders a 5-1 advantage before Hoptown cut the lead to 5-3 on RBI singles from Hutchinson and Cole Reynolds.
The win broke a four-game losing streak for the Railroaders, who improved to 2-7 on the year.
Chance Todd suffered the pitching loss for Hoptown as he gave up nine runs on 10 hits while striking out five and walking three in four innings.
The Hoppers return to action at 6:30 p.m. tonight at home against the Madisonville Miners. Airtime is set for 6:15 p.m. on 95.3 The Farm and 953thefarm.com.
