The American Red Cross is on the hunt for more volunteers, especially for their fire response teams, who go when called to help their neighbors who need support and compassion.
Lori Medley is with the Red Cross and she spoke with WHOP Friday, highlighting the efforts of the organization, from disaster response to blood drives and more. Their mission is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
Medley says something they are always in more need of, however, is volunteers—especially those who would respond to calls of house fires, as the Red Cross can help those who have been displaced and most importantly, provide support on someone’s worst day.
She says it’s easy to sign up—simply go online to redcross.org and it will direct you on how to sign up.
Medley calls it a vital service and does require some sacrifice but it extremely rewarding, knowing you can be there for someone in true need.Â
You can also donate to the cause, if you’re unable to volunteer, by going online to their website or calling 502-589-4450.
