The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library is preparing to bury a time capsule on Saturday, and it’s calling on the community to share items they want to be unearthed in 2036.
The library is looking for items that portray what life currently looks like in Christian County. Youth Services Librarian Kiwana Bridges says she looks forward to burying the capsule and calls it a way for community members to leave a mark on local history.
The time capsule coincides with the library’s Summer Reading Program theme “Unearth Your Story.” Bridges says folks can bring a wide variety of items such as pictures, letters, jewelry and much more.
Items must fit a box that is two inches all around. Registration is available through a Google Form on hccpl.org, and the deadline is Friday at 6 p.m. The Google form has a list of items that will not be accepted for the time capsule, such as perishable items, explosives, weapons, liquids and much more.
The time capsule’s burial ceremony will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. in front of the library at 1101 Bethel Street.
