Now former Murry Police officer charged with rape in Calloway, Trigg counties

A former Murray Police Department Officer is in custody on sex-related crimes, following investigation by Kentucky State Police.

According to KSP, they were contacted by the Murray Police Department on Tuesday concerning allegations of sexual abuse of a minor against one of their officers, 44-year-old Sergeant Justin Swope of Almo. Investigation began, and an interview conducted with the victim, who told detectives about multiple sexual encounters with Swope that began when she was 15.

The victim and Swope reportedly met while he was in his official capacity as an officer in 2018.

On Wednesday, detectives took Swope into custody—he is facing charges for two counts of third-degree rape and one county of third-degree sodomy in Calloway County, along with two counts of third-degree rape and one count of third-degree sodomy in Trigg County.

He has resigned from the Murray Police Department, and the investigation remains ongoing.
