Republican District 3 Fiscal Court candidates share their stances on local issues

Republican Incumbent George Barnett and newcomer Tana Loden are going head-to-head in next week’s primary election for the Christian County Fiscal Court’s District Three seat. The pair recently shared their stances on local growth at a forum hosted by the Hopkinsville League of Women Voters.

The pair answered questions about what improvements they want to see in Christian County, the potential creation of a new EMS station, and their plans for supporting business growth. When it comes to improvements, Barnett says he wants to continue the fiscal court’s economic development journey and wants to start applying for grants to fund the Christian County Courthouse renovation project.

Loden says safety is one of her priorities, and she would like to see some county roads widened, as well as provide more support to volunteer fire departments by helping them get more up-to-date equipment.

Further concerning safety, Loden says she would support the establishment of an EMS station in the northern part of the county to lower response times.

Barnett says there have been several conversations about creating an EMS station in north Christian County, but he does not want to relocate current personnel and ambulances, because that could impact run times elsewhere in the county. However, he says he could support the construction of a seventh EMS station and expanding resources.

When it comes to business attraction, Barnett says he wants to diversify the industries in Christian County and to focus more on helping existing businesses expand.

Loden says the fiscal court needs to have a more active role in seeking new businesses to encourage growth. She says more growth will attract more people to Christian County.
