Starting today, vehicle services in County Clerk’s Offices across the state will be shutdown for at least the next two weeks, as the state looks to update their auto renewal system.
That includes the Todd, Trigg and Christian County Clerk’s Offices, with Christian County Clerk Melinda Humphries saying their offices will not be closed, but the departments that deal with titles, vehicle registration and renewals, transfers and more will be down for likely the next two weeks.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is fully moving the automobile services to the KAVIS system, which Humphries says they have some prior experience with—she believes it will result in overall better customer service, once the update is complete.
She also reminds motorists that starting in 2024, Kentucky is switching to the Plate-To-Customer method, which means when you sell or trade your vehicle, your plate will stay with you, not the car.
All other services will be up and running as normal during this time period, with Humphries saying they hope have an updated timeline soon so they can keep people well informed on the length of the vehicle services shutdown.
